Meeting with DEİK/Turkey –Mexico Business Council Committee 30 June 2009

Under scope of visiting of DEİK/Turkey –Mexico Business Council Technological Institute of Monterrey Student Co to Turkey, a meeting was realized on 30 June 2009, at DEİK/TOBB Plaza. At the meeting, DEİK/Turkey –Mexico Business Council Vice Chairman Gökhan Kantarcıgil , DEİK Research and Development Department Vice Coordinator Ezi Ulusay and Koç Finansal Hizmetler A.Ş Chief Economist Assistant Prof. Dr Cevdet Akçay made their speeches. Ezgi Ulusay, in her presentation introducing DEİK, emphasized the activities of Turkish-Mexico and Turkish Brazil Business Councils. Ulusoy also introduced the Latin America Business Making Guide prepared by the Business Councils with support of Foreign Trade Undersecretariat . After Ulusoy, Associate Prof. Dr. Cevdet Akçay made a speech. Akçay, with his presentation, assessed the economical position of Turkey in the world and stated that the importance of Turkey in energy area increased further within last 10 years and it would continue to increase in following years. Akçay also stated that Turkey took important steps in way of European Union and full membership to the Union became abstract upon closing of the first phase.

Türkische Unternehmer beschweren sich über die Visumspolitik mancher EU-Staaten - Österreich gilt als besonders bürokratieintensiv Wien - Ahmet Sahap Ünlü ist sauer. Der Vizepräsident der türkisch-österreichischen Unternehmerversammlung wollte im Vorjahr nach Österreich reisen, zu Geschäftsterminen und Abendessen beim türkischen Botschafter in Wien. Sein Schengenvisum war gerade ausgelaufen, und er suchte beim österreichischen Konsulat in Istanbul um ein langfristiges Visum an. Ünlü betonte, dass er kein Visum für eine kurze Zeitspanne brauche. Andernfalls würde er lieber seinen Pass zurückhaben, damit nicht eine Seite seines Passes für ein solches Visum verschwendet werde.

SPAIN COUNTRY INTRODUCTORY MEETING WAS REALIZED AT GTO.

The Country Introductory meeting was realized at GTO to introduce the commercial cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Spain under the scope of project titled “Development of commercial cooperation between Gaziantep and Gipuzkoa Regions “ carried out under partnership of Gaziantep Chamber of Trade (GTO) and Spain, Gipuzka Chamber of Trade and Industry. GTO Board of Directors Chairman Mehmet Aslan, who made the opening speech of the meeting, stated that studies carried out to develop commercial and economical relations with Spain were the first priority of the Chamber. Chairman Aslan by pointing out that Spain was one the biggest importation and exportation partners of Turkey said that “Exportation of Turkey to Spain in 2008 year was 4 milliards dollar and our importation from that country was about 4.5 milliards dollar. In 2008, Spain was in the 10^th rank among the countries where Turkey made the exportation the most and in the 12^th rank among the countries where Turkey realized importation the most. “ Aslan stated that when binary commercial relations between Gaziantep and Spain were examined, exportation realized from Gaziantep to Spain in 2008 was about 42 milliards dollar

TURKEY-SPAIN COMMERCIAL RELATIONS WILL BE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL AT GTO...

A country introductory meeting will be organized at GTO to introduce the commercial cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Spain under the scope of pproject titled “Development of commercial cooperation between Gaziantep and Gipuzkoa Regions “ carried out under partnership of Gaziantep Chamber of Trade (GTO) and Spain, Gipuzka Chamber of Trade and Industry

GTO General Secretary Mesut Ölçal ,in the written explanation he made related to the subject, stated that: “ At the meeting to be held at our Chamber on March 26, 2009 –Thursday- at 13.30, under the scope of said project to be carried out in cooperation with GTO and Gipuzko Chamber of Trade and Industry, information about the Spain market will be given to KOBİs in Gaziantep and prospect cooperation opportunities will be introduced. GTO Board of Directors Chairman Mehmet Aslan, Spain Ankara Consulate Trade Undersecretary Carlos Ansede, European Union Turkey Delegation Civil Society and Democratizing Sector Manager Dorian Filote, DEİK Turkey-Spain Business Council vice President Ahmet Şahap Ünlü and Gipuzkoa Chamber of Trade and Industry Expert Blanca Ortueta will attend at the meeting as speakers. At the meeting, PEPSİ Exportation Chief Alper Kul will give half-day training about “Application of international marketing principles in crises environment.”

Development of Commercial Cooperation.

A meeting about the project titled “Development of commercial cooperation between Gaziantep and Gipuzkoa Regions” under the scope of Gaziantep Chamber of Trade (GTO) and Spain, Gipuzka Chamber of Trade and Industry (İGTO) was organized.

GTO Board of Directors Chairman Mehmet Aslan, Spain Consular General Joan Closi Matheu, Spain Trade Undersecretary Isaac Martin Barbero, DEİK Turkey-Spain Business Council vice President Ahmet Şahap Ünlü, Gipuzkoa Chamber of Trade and Industry experts and numerous industrialists attended to the meeting organized at Gaziantep Chamber of Trade meeting Hall. GTO Chairman Mehmet Aslan, who made the opening speech of the meeting, said that information offices would be established throughout 2009 year and activities such as participation in international fairs and personnel change would be realized. Aslan said that “ Under the EU-Turkey Chambers partnership grant program commenced with cooperation of TOBB and Eurochambers in 2008;, the project titled “Development of commercial cooperation between Gaziantep and Gipuzkoa Regions” we presented under cooperation of Gipuzkoa Chamber of Trade and Industry in the San Sabastian region of Spain was found successful as a result of the assessments made and gained to right of getting grant. Besides, both Chambers will organize meetings where introductory economical and commercial information about both countries will be given, areas where cooperation may be made will be introduced and trainings about business and trade opportunities in Spain and Turkey will be given to KOBİs in the region. Transferring of our experiences to the businessmen in the region is very important if we want to the project to gain its aims.”
